Operational FAQ

Technical documentation and protocols for the WeTheNorth Market infrastructure.

01. Infrastructure & Access

This portal operates as the primary directory for the WeTheNorth darknet market infrastructure. It provides verified, cryptographically signed V3 onion mirrors. The primary objective is to ensure users maintain a secure and authenticated connection path to the marketplace, mitigating the risk of connecting to non-official nodes.
Onion services are hidden services accessible only via the Tor network. Unlike clear-net domains, they do not rely on DNS or public IP addresses. Traffic is routed through a decentralized network of relays, providing three layers of encryption. This architecture ensures anonymity for both the server operator and the client.
Connection requires the Tor Browser, available from the Tor Project. Standard browsers are incompatible with .onion protocols. Once Tor is configured (Security Level: Safest), input a verified mirror address, such as hn2paw7w627n5bro3zirrhb5bchugcjmm2mvxggnnlxqjkhhwzolbdid.onion, into the navigation bar.
Registration is open and anonymous. No email or personal identification is required. During registration, the system generates a unique Mnemonic Recovery Phrase. This phrase must be recorded offline immediately. It serves as the cryptographic seed for account recovery; without it, lost passwords render the account permanently inaccessible.

02. Cryptography & OpSec

Verification is mandatory for security. WeTheNorth signs all official mirrors with a designated PGP private key. Users must import the market's public PGP key into their keyring (e.g., GPG4Win, GPG Suite). By verifying the PGP signature accompanying a URL or status message, users can mathematically confirm the server's identity.
Advanced security measures include: 1) Disabling JavaScript in Tor Browser settings. 2) Using a distinct operating system like Tails OS or Whonix. 3) Never communicating outside the platform's encrypted channels. 4) Always encrypting sensitive delivery information with the vendor's PGP key before submission.
2FA adds a cryptographic challenge to the login process. In account settings, users upload their PGP Public Key. Once enabled, the login screen presents an encrypted block of text. This block must be decrypted using the user's private key to reveal a temporary authentication token. This ensures access is restricted to the key holder.

03. Financial Protocol

The platform processes Bitcoin (BTC) and Monero (XMR). Monero is the recommended standard for all transactions. Its protocol utilizes ring signatures, RingCT, and stealth addresses to completely obfuscate transaction data on the blockchain, providing a layer of fungibility and privacy that Bitcoin's transparent ledger cannot match.
Escrow holds funds in a neutral market wallet until order completion. Funds are not released to the vendor until the buyer confirms receipt. The system includes an auto-finalization timer: 48 hours for digital goods and 14 days for physical goods. This mechanism protects capital during the shipping window.
The market generates a unique, one-time-use deposit address for each transaction. While the blockchain network charges a miner fee, WeTheNorth minimizes platform deposit fees. Users should always verify current network congestion levels and fee estimates on their wallet dashboard before initiating a transfer to ensure timely confirmation.

04. Logistics & Policy

Vendor status is restricted to verified operators. Requirements include a non-refundable bond payment, proven reputation from established markets, or proof of inventory. WeTheNorth enforces mandatory 2FA and PGP keys for all vendors. Compliance with the domestic shipping policy is strictly monitored.
The platform enforces a strict ethical code. Prohibited listings include: Weapons, Explosives, Fentanyl and its analogues, Poisons, Human Trafficking services, Hitman services, and Terrorism-related material. Violations result in immediate vendor banning and account seizure.
No. WeTheNorth is exclusively a domestic Canadian marketplace. All goods must originate within Canada and be shipped to Canadian addresses. This policy is enforced to eliminate the risk of customs (CBSA) intervention, resulting in a significantly higher success rate for deliveries.
If an order is not received or differs from the description, buyers may initiate a dispute prior to escrow finalization. A moderator reviews the transaction data, vendor metrics, and communication logs. The moderator's ruling is final. Users should never Finalize Early (FE) unless the vendor has established explicit trust.

05. Technical Support

Temporary connection failures may occur due to network congestion, DDoS mitigation, or scheduled maintenance. If a link is unresponsive, consult the Mirrors Page for alternative operational nodes. The infrastructure is designed to be resilient; patience is recommended during network stress events.
WeTheNorth provides 24/7 support via the internal ticketing system. The administration is fully bilingual (English/French). For account lockouts or recovery issues, users should reference the official announcements on Dread for current recovery protocols.
